i forgot to tell Melissa about this, but figured I'd just post it on here for all to read... We have a dairy, so Belle's in the old heifer barn. Lots of room for her to move around, and a big pasture off the side. However, the cows have first dibs on the pasture, and Belle gets hand grazed now and again. She loves company, and often talks to the cows through the boards. The whole herd was out grazing one afternoon, and I thought I would take her out and see how well she played with the cows. Out we went, and instantly, we were mobbed by curious cows wanting to know what in the heck was in their field (none of them have ever been around a horse). Belle could have cared less! She went right to grazing, with a pack of curious little Jersey heifers sniffing all over her. One tried head butting her to show her who's boss, and Belle just looked at her annoyed and started grazing in a different spot. She made her happy little horsey ttthhhbbb noise, and the cows about died. It was actually pretty stinkin' funny. So, I obviously got a mare with some working cow horse abilitites... but do not have cattle that know what a working cow horse is, nor want to be worked by said cow horse. : )
